EXCEL HOMEWORK #1

PS70

Dr. M. Zabinski

  1. The sheet shows the number of medals won by selected countries during the 1992 Winter Olympic Games. Create a worksheet that presents this information and calculates the required totals. Note that both row and column totals are computed.

  2. Follow the steps below to construct a worksheet as shown. The question marks in the figure indicate cells that will contain formulas. Begin by entering all of the text constants (use Autofill to enter the month names), and then enter the numbers for cost and price, and all the values for numbers sold. Enter the formula for income per cup as selling price minus our cost per cup. Calculate the income for January by multiplying the number sold by the income per cup. Remember, the reference to income per cup should be absolute. Copy the formula to the other months.

Create formulas (using the SUM function) for total number sold and total income. Style in bold and center across columns the title and subtitle. Make the title a slightly larger size than the subtitle and make the subtitle italic. Format the column headings for our cost, selling price, and income per cup as bold, aligned to the right, and set to wrap. Format the month names and total as bold, italic, and aligned to the right.

Apply the Currency style to the cost, price, and income per cup cells. Apply Currency style with no decimal places to the monthly income formulas and Comma style with no decimal places to the values for numbers sold each month. Adjust column widths and row heights as necessary, turn off cell gridlines, and apply borders so the worksheet resembles the figure.

* Don't forget to hand in two of each worksheet - one with the formulas visible, and one with the numbers.
